Seize the Night
(Book 6, Dark-Hunter Series)
By Sherrilyn Kenyon
Valerious is the noble son of a Roman senator who thought sparring the rod...er...tree trunk, spoil the child. It's obvious Val developed a standoffish personality and he doesn't play nice with the other Dark-Hunters, but he does his job well. One night he's minding his own business, fighting those pesky vampires and then the next second he gets stabbed in the chest, by a quirky mortal human woman who's trained herself to kill vampires; Tabbitha. Tabbitha, a self proclaimed vampire hunter, lives life to the fullest and doesn't care what other people think of her. She's no stranger to being considered crazy and at times an outcast. She's definitely Val's complete opposite but he finds her captivating and to make matters worse, she's the twin sister his mortal enemy's wife. Mixed in to fray of love between the two, there's a god out for revenge and won't rest until Tabbitha's family is all dead; that means a two-thousand year old fued riddled with hate and injustice needs to be resolved...just peachy.
Its amazing when you think about it, everyone has just one side of the story. And to quote a very smart "god"; "There's always two sides to the story...and then there's the truth." It always take a brave person to seek out the truth, but even braver person to find peace with the truth. With this story, it cemented my firm fanaticism to Kenyon's Dark-Hunter World. When she first introduced Valerious in a previous book, I really despised his character and of course my curiosity was peaked wanting to know what really happened two-thousand years ago. AND, I love the interweaving of characters and the ever growing mystery that is Acheron! For the full book-list visit Sherrilyn Kenyon's Official Website
Infinity
(Choronicles of Nick Series)
Book 1
If you're a Dark-Hunter fan (like I am!) you know the legendary Nick Gautier. In this book, Sherrilyn Kenyon introduces us to the fourteen-year-old Nick where we see a glimps into the mystery that is Nick. He's a tough as nails, streetwise, smart-ass...er sarcastic teen and thanks to his loving mother (a single-mom who works as a stripper trying to make a living for her and her son) who somehow finds every possible hawaiian shirt the Good Will has. Nick doesn't just think he's a goeber but a uber goeber. Add to the mix a mysterious man who saves Nick's life only to be threatened by flesh eating zombies, who happen to be members of Nick's high school football team, a Demon who's trying to eat him, a prophecy Nick is fated to fulfill and you've got the introduction to the Chronicles of Nick, Infinity.
I enjoyed learning more about Tabby and Acheron and when I picked up this book knew it was going to a tamer version of the adult Dark-Hunter series, so I was prepared for the difference in Ms. Kenyon's writing style but not to belittle this book Ms. Kenyon is definitely talented and can write in both genre. With that being said I'm excited to see the next series in the CON books. Visit Sherrilyn Kenyon Official Website for more great books! oh and of course listen to this via
Heart of the Dragon
(Atlantis Series, Book 1)
by Gena Showalter
I've been reading so much and not writing about it lately I figured I should start with my new obsession! I picked up Heart of the Dragon-- Book 1 in Gena Showalter's Atlantis Series-- in audio book format from and couldn't put it down, er...stop listening to it!
Darius is a shape-shifting Dragon warrior who is sworn to protect Atlantis from travelers who stray in un-welcomed. That is until a curly red-haired, green-eyed Grace Carlyle accidentally stumbles into the boundry.
Darius is now tempted to betray his vow. Instead of killing Grace he imprisions her in his palace. He trys to convince himself he's doing it to find out how she's obtained the Dragon necklace she's wearing around her neck but Darius can only try for so long. Not only does she intrigue him but his dulled senses and emotions he's buried deep inside are now awakened by Grace's presencene. Then Grace escapes. On his detremined quest to find her Draius stumbles upon a plot to kill all the Dragons in Atlantis and Grace is the key to answer who's behind it.
Yeah, I was hooked instantly! Ms. Showalter definitly delivered a great opener to a new spin on the world of Atlantis which features sexy shape-shifter dragons, vampires, humans, lots of steamy love scenes and the necessary evil characters that make a paranormal romance my favorite genre. I'm always amazed at Ms. Showalter's imagination and never disappointed with her delivery. The Darkest Whisper
(Lords of the Underworld, Book 5)
By Gena Showalter
Book 5 in the Lords of the Underworld continues the addictive story of a group of immortal warriors that were sworn to protect Zeus but became jealous when they weren't chosen to protect the box that contained the worlds worst Demons; Violence, Death, Pain, etc... Letting their jealousy and vanity control them, they killed Pandora and let the Demons loose, so the Gods then decided to punish them for their treachery and bonded them to the Demons. So far, we've learned of Geryon, Maddox, Lucien, and Reyes; even read about the Titan god Apollo and Greek god Nike.
So that's the what's happened up untill to now and we can jump into the Darkest Whisper. Ruthless is Sabin's middle name, add a Demon called Doubt to the mix, and it makes for a fierce immortal warrior. After his best friend, Bastien, was killed by the Hunters who blamed them for every evil thing to happen on the earth, Sabin decided to wage a war on them and let total revenge take over his life's purpose. Fast forward two thousand years later, Sabin's Demon can destroy even the most of confident lovers, so he focuses on his war and strives for ultimate victory. He will do anything to win the war against the Hunters allowing his Demon to place doubt in his enemies thoughts. That is, until he saves an imprisoned and timid hell spawned Harpy (which is an oxymoron even by immortal standards because these beings are fast and fierce killing everything in sight) named Gwendolyn the Timid. Since Sabin can calm her darker side (the not so timid Harpy) he sees he can use her- as long as she doesn't kill everyone in sight -as the ultimate weapon. The thing is Gwendolyn the Timid knows she has a darker side but she's always wanted normal, safe and calm. All the things that Sabin is not...stupid girl.
This book is different from the others, because Sabin tries to separate himself from his Demon and use it to his advantage You can imagine the constant second guessing that goes on. Sabin, for housing Doubt, was pretty confident, and Gwen is already doubtful of everything but I still kept feeling torn and doubtful of everything. I love it when women are fierce fighters...Ooops! I just gave away some of the book away, but Yes, Gwendolyn starts out timid and she finds the one person who changes everything about her current life. Great book...I think. Could it have been better? Maybe...but I guess Not, because there was tons of action and suspense. Go to see the Officical Gena Showalter Website for more great reads.
The Darkest Prison
(Lords of the Underworld, Novella Book 4.5)
By Gena Showalter
Apollo is the Titan god of strength and Nike, his counterpart, is the Greek god of strength and needless to say both are each others equal. Now that the Titans have defeated the Greek gods and switched roles- prisoner and warden -Apollo has retribution to serve the goddess Nike. Yeah, so what that Apollo used her to try and escape. To bad he realized his lie was actually the truth a little to late, but payback is a cruel mistress to ignore.
Neat little novella to keep the Lords of the Underworld storyline going. Little snippets of information on the upcoming Lords story is definitely sprinkled throughout the book and of course this novella gives you a new dimension on the story of the LOTU. It kept my interested peaked as well as my chocolate consumption!

The Darkest Pleasure
(Lords of the Underworld Series, Book 4)
by Gena Showalter
Imagine having to experience pain, everyday, every hour, every time you wanted peace. Well, welcome to Reyes' world where jumping off two-story-buildings is a fan favorite. Good thing immortals can't die and too bad they heal quickly. Now he must choose between his best friend and the woman who is completely off limits: Dankia.
Danika is mentioned in The Darkest Night, where she and her grandmother, sister and mother where imprisoned by the Lords in there Budapest home. They were eventually freed but warned to run and never look back. Now she's doing just that with hate and shame fueling her every action she has sworn to herself she will never be weak again, she will go down swingin. In her dreams , however, she is plagued with Reyes, the Lord who is a definite no-no. Danika wants to forget him, and all the Lords for that matter, but she can't, her dreams won't let her. Add to the mix the constant threat from the Hunters- who want her first hand information and use her to get to the Lords - as well as, Aeron (who also happens to be Reyes best friend that's been commanded by the head honcho god, Coronus, to kill Danika and her family) and you've got the painfully journey of Reyes and Danika.
Needless to say this book is dark, so if you have a sensitivity to vivid and sometimes gruesome violence and pain, warning alert, this book has bucket loads. I found myself truly wanting to be Reye's savior the whole time, yes, his demon craves pain, but the immortal man in him does not and that played with my "savior" emotions. However, I do have one little complaint, Danika. Yes, she was abducted- but never harmed other than being scared out of her mind when she was flown into town by a man/Lord with bat-like-wings -and of course, taken away from her life she will never able to go back to, but it got tiring to read her whining about it. Made me want to slap her and yell at her "Cope you silly woman, he loves you!" Good thing she moves on the the next phase of her life and I guess, it also shows Ms. Showalter's writing talent to make me eventually love Danika's character transformation.
